Sandbags are available today, September 13, 2021
Guidelines: Six (6) sandbags per address can be picked up at the Port Arthur Bob Bowers Civic Center, 3501Cultural Center Drive, or at the Port Arthur Downtown Pavilion, 500 Procter Street, for Port Arthur residents until the supply runs out. Please bring your ID and your own shovels. If you bring your own sandbags, the limit will still be six (6) sandbags.
According to updates from National Weather Service-Lake Charles, the National Hurricane Center, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Port Arthur Emergency Management, Port Arthur will have heavy rain from Monday night through Friday.
The Port Arthur Emergency Management Team is asking all residents and businesses to prepare for the heavy rainfall from tonight until Wednesday, and rain throughout the rest of the week.

UPDATE 3:
From the information we have received from the National Weather Service, Port Arthur will experience up to ten inches of rain over the next two and a half days, nowhere near the amounts received in previous storms.

NWS outlook:
"Tropical Storm Nicholas is forecast to make landfall on the middle Texas coast later today or tonight. There is a chance it could become a category one hurricane before landfall.
Regardless of development, we are expecting 5 to 10 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible. Expect to see street flooding during periods of heavy rain, and possibly enter homes and businesses. The risk area covers our entire region through Wednesday.
Tides will run 1 to 4 feet above normal in our region, with the higher values in southeast Texas. During high tides, minor coastal flooding is expected."
There is still a significant threat of flash flooding in Southeast Texas.

"Tropical Storm Nicholas is forecast to make landfall on the Texas coast on Tuesday. The landfall location has shifted further north up the Texas coast, and a tropical storm watch is in place now for Jefferson County.
The longer it stays out over water, the better chance it has of becoming a category 1 hurricane.
Regardless of development, we are still expecting a significant flash flood event, with area-wide rain totals of 5 to 15 inches, and local areas seeing as much as 20 to 30 inches. Expect to see street flooding during periods of heavy rain, and possibly enter homes and businesses. The highest risk area is southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana.
Tides will run 1 to 4 feet above normal in our region, with the highest values in southeast Texas and Cameron Parish. During high tide, coastal flooding is expected and the roads that are most vulnerable will see water come across them in coastal sections of Jefferson County and Cameron Parish."
There is still a significant threat of flash flooding in Southeast Texas.

Sandbags
Port Arthur Emergency Management has opened another site for sandbags for citizens. Residents may go to the Port Arthur Downtown Pavilion, 500 Procter Street, to pick up sandbags. Guidelines remain the same.

Preparation guidelines:
Monday will be the only day for regular pickup of residential garbage. Pull in your toter as soon as garbage is emptied. Officials will notify the public about garbage collection for the rest of the week. Please do not put toters out on Tuesday until the notice is sent out. Thank you.
Secure all outdoor furniture, equipment, and items that may float off in the heavy rainfall. Please untie outside dogs from trees, or poles, too.

Be sure to clear the ditches in front of your home of debris and built-up leaves to avoid flooding; there will be a lot of rain, some sure to cause flooding in homes and businesses.
